I’m not afraid to admit I stumbled on today’s Wordle. It was tough, even by The New York Times’ standard. Before I give away the answer, I have a few hints and clues that might lead you in the right direction.

- Hint 1: An underground room or vault beneath a church, used as a chapel or burial place.
- Hint 2: Noun.
- Hint 3: The word begins with the letter “C.”
- Hint 4: They built a c______ under the altar.
Today’s Wordle answer (No. 1,264, Dec. 4)
Are you still struggling with today’s Wordle? I don’t blame you. The answer is CRYPT. This word means a stone chamber beneath the floor of a church or other building. “He was buried in St Gregory’s vault in the crypt of St Paul’s.”

Today’s Wordle difficulty rating (Dec. 4)
The New York Times said today’s Wordle took players an average of 4.8 out of six guesses to get the correct answer, which doesn’t surprise me. I also struggled to get the answer. I’d give it a four out of five on the difficulty rating.
